General Info
The training for Private Pilot Certificate complies with the Federal Aviation Regulations Part 61 and is done in a single engine airplane (Cessna 172M) and will allow someone to act as Pilot in Command (PIC) of a single engine airplane and carry passengers.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be at least 17 years of age
- Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language
- Complete training on the aeronautical knowledge areas
- Pass the required knowledge test
- Received flight training from an authorized instructor
- Pass a practical test
Hours Required
- 40 hours of flight time (national average is around 60 hours) that includes at least 20 hours of flight training from an authorized instructor
- 10 hours of solo flight (minimum age to solo is 16 years of age)
Cost
This varies greatly depending on individual ability and weekly availability to train. It is recommended to allow a minimum of 3 days a week to do flight training so that muscle memory can be developed with little time spent on review of the flight maneuvers each training flight. I would recommend that you plan to spend $25,000 – $30,000 to acquire your Private Pilot Certificate.
