The training for Initial Flight Instructor Certificate complies with the Federal Aviation Regulations Part 61 and is done in a single engine airplane (Cessna 172M) and will allow the student to get proficient performing the private pilot and commercial maneuvers from the right seat.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language
Hold either a commercial pilot certificate or airline transport pilot certificate - Complete training on the aeronautical knowledge areas
- Pass the required knowledge tests
- Fundamentals of instructing
- Aeronautical knowledge
- Received flight training from an authorized instructor
- Pass a practical test
Hours Required
Hours needed to show proficiency of the private pilot and commercial maneuvers from the right seat.
Cost
I would recommend that the applicant completes the two required knowledge exams before beginning flight training. Cost will be dependent on individual ability and proficiency. I would say for planning purposes allow 7-10 hours of right seat proficiency…so that would range between $2,000-$2,750.
